Social Justice Working Group- Seeking Parents
Dear Pembroke Families,
We hope you are well and enjoying these beautiful summer days. As we prepare for school in the fall, we are looking for your input in regard to regulatory requirements focusing on special education and civil rights.
We are looking for two-parent/guardian representatives from each of our 5 schools to form a Parent Social Justice Working Group. If we receive more than volunteers than we have spaces, we will select the members randomly. Please know that if you are not selected for the working group, but are still interested in the work of this group, there will be other opportunities through the summer and subsequent school year to participate in parent forums to share your perspectives and offer suggestions. The goal of the group would be to identify concerns related to special education, race, culture, and identity in our schools as we embark on an Institutional Self Evaluation as required by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. We would ask that interested parent/guardians email Sharon Monteforte (Sharon.firstname.lastname@example.org) directly identifying the school their students attend. Our first virtual meeting is tentatively scheduled for the week of July 13th.
We will be forming a larger district-wide group to review our practices that will include administrators, teachers and parents, and other members of our school community. We hope that the Parent Social Justice Working Group will identify two members to serve as representatives to the district group.
