Pembroke Public Schools Office of Student Services Family Survey
As you may recall, Pembroke Public Schools participated in a Department of Secondary and Elementary Education program review called the Tiered Focused Monitoring Process during the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years. This process is essentially an audit of our ability to meet specific criteria and regulations in special education and civil rights. The district’s final report can be found on our website.
DESE found Pembroke Public Schools in full compliance with all but one criterion. DESE required the development of an institutional self-assessment. The purpose of the self-assessment is to evaluate our K-12 programming to ensure that all students, regardless of race, color, sex, gender identity, religion, national origin, limited English proficiency, sexual orientation, disability, or housing status, have equal access to all programs. Those programs also include athletics and other extracurricular activities. The final step in the self-evaluation process is to conduct surveys of our faculty, students, and families related to our ability to provide equal access to all our students.
We would appreciate it if you could take this survey by December 11, 2020, to assist us in this process. Pembroke Public Schools will use the survey data and those of the faculty and student surveys to examine trends, identify areas of concern, and set goals for improvement. Students will be participating in the survey in early December.

- Equitable: fair and impartial
- Inequity: lack of fairness or justice
- Social Justice: fair treatment of all people in a society, including respect for the rights of disenfranchised groups including but not limited to those who are discriminated against for ethnicity, sex, sexual orientation, religion, disability, and limited English proficiency; and equitable distribution of resources among members of a community
- Anti-bias: opposing or prohibiting unfair discrimination against people based on race, religion, etc.; preventing or counteracting bias
- Anti-bias education: involves creating a community that supports all dimensions of human differences, including culture, race, language, ability, learning styles, ethnicity, family structure, religion, sexual orientation, gender, age, and socioeconomic differences.
