February 12, 2021

Dear PHS Families,

Here is this week's update, reminders, and other important notes regarding PHS matters.

As many of you are aware, we have begun preparations for our Return to Learn for 100% of our students.  Per the school committee's guidance, we will look to bring back students in Cohorts A, B, and C in grades 11 and 12 on Tuesday, March 16, and students in grades 9 and 10 on Tuesday, March 30 (Remember, we are maintaining our Remote Monday schedule at this time).  Students in Cohort D will be able to stay in that learning model.

I have scheduled a series of virtual Q&A sessions for our students for the week after vacation.  These sessions are completely voluntary and will occur during the grade-level open blocks on the "At-Home Support Schedule," on the dates/times below;

  • Grade 9 - Thursday, Feb. 25 (Cohort B) and Friday, Feb. 26 (Cohort A) from 9:20-10:05 a.m. each day
  • Grade 10 - Thursday, Feb. 25 (Cohort B) and Friday, Feb 26 (Cohort A) from 10:40-11:25 a.m. each day.
  • Grade 11 -  Thursday, March 4 (Cohort B) and Friday, March 5 (Cohort A) from 7:40-8:25 a.m. each day
  • Grade 12 - Thursday, March 4 (Cohort B) and Friday, March 5 (Cohort A) from 8:30-9:15 a.m. each day.

  • The joining links for all meets will be sent to students via their Google accounts.
  • Students in Cohort D can attend any of the appropriate grade-level sessions.
  • Students in Cohort C will have the opportunity to meet with me during Titan Time on Wednesday, March 3.  Students can send a request to attend that session via Enriching Students or to me via email.

I will also be holding two parent Q&A sessions:

We do hope all of our students and staff enjoy their well-deserved February break.  However, with each vacation week comes concerns about spikes in COVID-19 cases.  We ask everyone to continue to use great care while on vacation, and for those that are traveling, I have included the Massachusetts Travel Order issued by Governor Baker.

CLASS OF 2022 - The College Planning Process

The Guidance Department has begun the College Planning Process for the members of the Class of 2022.

  1.  The first step in the process is the Post-Secondary Planning Seminars, which are occurring virtually on the "at-home" days for students in Cohorts A and B (and D).  Students in Cohort C will attend an in-person seminar during the students' study hall.  The seminar appointments have been sent to students already via their school email accounts, so please remind your child to make sure he or she has it.  For parents that are interested, you can view a typical Post-Secondary Planning Seminar by clicking here.  Thanks to Mrs. Goff for creating this sample video so that parents can gain a better understanding of what those seminars entail.
  2. Once the Post-Secondary Planning Seminars have concluded, the Guidance Department will turn its attention to the parents and families, first by hosting two virtual Q&A opportunities.

March 1st - 11:45 AM-12:45 PM

March 4th - 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM:

This College Planning Checklist has also gone out to all juniors and is in their Guidance Google Classroom.

Finally, please save the date. The Guidance Department will host a virtual College Admissions Panel on March 31st at 6:30 PM in collaboration with several surrounding south shore high schools. College Admissions Representatives from the following colleges will be available for the virtual event:

  • University of California San Diego
  • Providence College
  • Bridgewater State University
  • The University of Massachusetts at Amherst
  • Quinnipiac University
  • Bates College

Having admissions counselors from each of these schools will provide helpful information from a wide range of schools, which should prove very helpful to parents wondering what their children should be doing to impress college admissions offices from across the higher-education spectrum.

There are 1,000 registration slots on a first-come-first-served basis.  Parents can register by clicking here.
