Update from Principal Talbot Regarding Grading for Seniors

Dear Senior Parents,

Once again, I hope you are all doing well as we enter the home stretch for our seniors! Three more weeks of classes!

From what I can tell, many of our students are doing a great job with remote learning, and I appreciate your efforts in helping them engage. Given the generous grading system we have established for them, I want to remind parents that students can boost their overall yearly average by 1/3 of a letter grade by engaging during this time. Conversely, that grade will go down by 1/3 of a letter grade if they do not, and while they might still pass with a 1/3 letter grade reduction, it will change the GPA accordingly.

Speaking of which, we have discovered that the formula that we were using to calculate GPA for seniors (using grades at the end of semester one) is creating a problem with state reporting that we did not anticipate. Additionally, closing grades for GPA in January would not allow seniors to benefit from our remote learning grading policy.

As a result, all seniors will have their final grades and GPAs calculated at the end of T4. This will allow all of them the opportunity to benefit from earning credit – and having their final grades increased by 1/3 of a letter grade when they do!

Thanks, everyone. Please don’t ever hesitate to reach out should you have any questions about this or any other matter.

Kind Regards,
Marc Talbot, Principal
