Pembroke High School Weekly Update

Dear PHS Students and Families,

I hope that this (delayed) Weekly Email Update finds all of you well and recovering after a very challenging week.  I am happy to hear that most of our community had power restored by late Friday, and I extend my sincere wishes that everyone escaped potentially serious property damage (or worse!).  Here is the update that I would have sent last Friday - with some important information that has recently come to light.   As always, please don't hesitate to see me with any questions on these or any other matters.

Because we lost three days of instruction last week, we are extending Term 1 by three days.  Grades for Term 1 will now close at the end of the day on Wednesday, November 10.  This means that Term 1 report cards will now be issued to students on Thursday, November 18 during E-Block.

To ensure (to the best extent possible) that our four terms are evenly balanced at 45 days per term, we will also extend Terms 2-4 by three days as well.

  • Term 1 now ends on 11/10
  • Term 2 now ends on 1/26
  • Term 3 now ends on 4/6
  • Term 4 now ends on 6/20 (our new last day of school)

Last week's school cancellation also impacted our School Picture Retakes.  We have worked with Legacy Studios to reschedule those for Tuesday, November 9.  We understand that the original photos have yet to arrive.  We appreciate your patience and we do anticipate those arriving soon.

Congratulations to the 77 members of the Class of 2022 that sent out college applications for today's "early action" deadline.  This is roughly 40% of the Senior Class.   These students did so despite the power and internet outages that plagued so many of us last week.

I would be remiss if I did not thank our guidance counselors (Mrs. Conathan, Mr. Shannon, and Mrs. Goff), who helped those students meet their deadlines while they, too, were dealing with those same outages.  Students and counselors alike showed tremendous dedication by traveling to coffee houses in nearby towns that had power so that they could get everything done!  I'm proud of our entire school community!

As a reminder, the district has begun the process of ascertaining if any of our schools are approaching the 80% vaccination status required to petition the Commissioner of Education as well as local officials for an exemption to the mask mandate.  If you have not already done so, please click here to learn how that process is unfolding for our district, understand the level of confidentiality involved, and access the attestation form that parents can submit to - once again - confidentially indicate their child's vaccination status.

The PHS Chapter of the National Honor Society is pleased to announce that it will be inducting new members this coming  Thursday, November 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the Patricia Randall Auditorium.

So that we can safely accommodate the existing members of the NHS, our new inductees, and their families, each new inductee will be allowed to have two guests attend the ceremony.  Please remember that masks are required to attend, and while an inductee's guests can sit together, we further request that we leave one empty seat between each pairing.  This will ensure that families can sit together while being safely distanced by 3-feet from another family.

Congratulations to our new NHS members.  We look forward to celebrating this remarkable achievement on Thursday.

We are still in the process of identifying a new date/time for last week's conferences.  As soon as we come to a solution, we will be sure to let you know.  In the meantime, our November 17 conferences are still scheduled from 3:30-7:30 p.m.

The November PHS PTO meeting has been rescheduled for next Monday, November 8 at 7 p.m. in the PHS Library.

Please consider supporting the Class of 2022 by partaking in this unique fundraising opportunity. On November 6 and 7, from 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Herring Run, the Senior Class is hosting mini-photo sessions, with each session lasting for 20-minutes.  For $60, your 20-minute session will produce 4-6 digital images guaranteed, with 60% of the proceeds going to the Class of 2022.  The best part is that the photographers are PHS alumnae Sophia Antoniotti ('20) and Christina Hickey ('18).

The attached flyer has all of the information that you need, including details to schedule your mini-photo session.  Our seniors have been working hard this year, trying to make up for fundraising opportunities taken away by the pandemic.  They have had two very successful ones already this year, and we thank you for any consideration you may have for taking advantage of this offer.  It could make for a terrific holiday family photo, among many other things!

  • November 8 - PTO Meeting (PHS Library 7 p.m.)
  • November 10 - Term 1 grades close
  • November 11 - Veterans Day - No School
  • November 12 - Professional Development - no school for students
  • November 18 - Term 1 report cards distributed
  • November 19-21 - PHS Musical Mama Mia
  • November 24 ERD (dismissal at 11:10 a.m.)
  • November 25, 26 - Thanksgiving Break
  • November 29 - First Day of Winter Sports Tryouts

Thanks, everyone.  Have a great weekend, and please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions on these or any other matters.

Kind Regards,
