Office of Student Services Update

Dear Parents and Guardians,

As we look forward to the 2021-2022 school year, I am writing to share some information related to Special Education.    Thank you to our special educators and families who worked so hard to ensure all students with disabilities continued to receive the supports and services outlined in their Individual Education Programs (IEPs) during remote and hybrid learning.  Our continued collaboration will also be critical this year.

As we are back to 100% in-person learning, we will no longer need COVID Learning Plans. We will provide special education services to students this school year as written in their IEPs. As approved by the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE), we will continue to conduct our special education team meetings virtually.  Not only will this allow us to limit visitors into our buildings during school hours as we continue to keep our students and staff’s health in mind, but also the feedback we have received has been that virtual meetings allow for easier access for working individuals.  We certainly will work with individual parents/guardians should an in-person meeting be requested.

Please know that your input is invaluable. Your observations are particularly critical during this transition time when you may have added insight into your child’s learning experiences, including any difficulty they may have had accessing remote learning. It is essential to share what you know about your child’s needs, including their engagement, attention, behavior, progress, skills, home experiences, and other observations about their academic, emotional, and social well-being.   Please reach out to your child’s special education liaison to share any information that you feel is important for your child’s team to know.

We look forward to working with you this year to ensure your child has a successful school year.
