Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Working Group Notice of Interest
Dear Pembroke Families & Community Members,
In the spring of 2020, Pembroke Public Schools established a Social Justice Working Group to review and discuss our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We want to add some new members to the working group this fall. We aim to have a group with varying backgrounds, opinions, and schools of thought where all ideas are welcomed. For the past two years, this group has met to discuss how we can best serve the students of Pembroke by examining three areas: curriculum and instruction, social-emotional learning needs, and policy. For those of you who are looking for more information about our work, please see the attached slides, which were presented to the School Committee in March of 2021.
At our June 2022 SJWG meeting, we decided to change the name of our group to the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Working Group to better identify our focus areas. Meetings will occur on the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 PM in the Large Group Instruction Room at North Pembroke Elementary School. Our first meeting will be on October 5th, 2022.
We will focus on Celebrating Community as a way to guide our work this year. We welcome all voices to join us in our efforts. We hope to include two parents from each school and 2-3 interested community members.
