NOTICE: Pembroke Public School District Receives Safer Schools and Communities Grant
Pembroke MA- The Pembroke Public School District is pleased to announce the district has been awarded $60,000 in state funding from the MA Safer Schools and Communities “Local Equipment and Technology” grant competition. The grant was offered by the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Office of Grants and Research (OGR). The funding will allow the district to upgrade its security infrastructure at all five schools.
This grant will assist the school district in completing the next phase of its security plan by funding the installation of swipe card technology in all five of the buildings. Superintendent Erin Obey said, “Securing our entrances with swipe card technology has been on our capital plan for several years now. Getting this Safer Schools Grant has allowed us to finally achieve this. In difficult financial times, it is opportunities like the Safer Schools Grant that allow us to keep moving the district forward.”
The Safer Schools and Communities Initiative is designed for public schools to address critical infrastructure equipment and technology needs as it relates to school building security and the safety of students and staff. Director of Athletics and Facilities, Justin J. Domingos and Communications Specialist, Sharon Monteforte took the lead in developing a safety and security needs analysis and writing the grant proposal. Because of their work, Pembroke’s application was extremely well-written, comprehensive, and it clearly articulated the District’s needs.
Director of Athletics and Facilities, Justin J. Domingos said, “We are excited to receive a grant from the state of Massachusetts that enables Pembroke Public Schools to enhance the security and safety for all of our children, staff, and community stakeholders. “
