Join the Cast of The Music Man

Dear Caregiver(s) of Pembroke Students in Grades 4 – 8::

The Pembroke High School Music Department and Thespian Society are extending an invitation to students in grades 4-8 to be in the cast of our annual musical production.  This year, our musical is The Music Man.   We will be seeking approximately 30 students to fill out our cast as the Townspeople of River City, Iowa.  This will involve singing and acting. The Music Man Children’s Chorus will be in three major scenes from the show.  They will be required to attend rehearsals between September 16th and November 14th and all production week rehearsals and performances.  Please refer to the schedule of dates and times provided below.  This is a great way to expose our younger school community to live theater performance, and to be a part of a truly magical event!

Each rehearsal will be led by Gwynne Chapman, Vocal Director for the musical and Director of Fine Arts, and Andrea Canevazzi, Musical Director and advisor of the Thespian Society.  Parents are encouraged not only to stay throughout the rehearsal to hear what your child is learning so that you can add support at home for them to practice, but we invite you to be a part of our cast too!  Any caregiver that has a child in our children’s cast is encouraged to be a part of our production.  Caregivers are performing in the same scenes as your child.  It is imperative that your child arrive and be picked up from rehearsal on time.

If your child (or you!) is interested in being a part of The Music Man cast, please plan to be present at the casting audition on Tuesday, September 10th.  Auditions will take place from 4:00 – 7:00 PM in the high school auditorium. The first 15 minutes of the audition will be an informational meeting for students and their parents, and then we will commence with the auditions. Here is the breakdown of the audition on 9/10/19:

4:00 – 4:15 PM  Informational meeting

4:15 – 6:15 PM  Singing/acting auditions for students in grades 4-8.

6:15 – 7:00 PM   Students in grades 7 &8 audition for roles of Winthrop and Amaryllis  (Requires preparation on audition song)

Grade 4-6 students do not need to prepare anything in advance for the audition.  Music will be provided and taught to the students at the audition.  Part of what we are assessing is how well your child takes direction, attentiveness, listening skills, and vocal and acting potential.

Each student must be accompanied by their caregiver at the audition, thank you.

Theatrically Yours,

Gwynne Chapman & Andrea Canevazzi
The Directors
