Dear 5th and 6th grade Students & Caregiver(s)

The Pembroke High School Music Department and Thespian Society are extending an invitation to students in grades 5 and 6 to be in the cast of our annual musical production.  This year, our musical will be Seussical, The Musical!  We will be needing approximately 30 students to fill out our cast as members of the Whoville Chorus.   Participation will involve singing, acting, and dancing. The Seussical Children’s Chorus will be in numerous major scenes from the show.  They will be required to attend the rehearsals listed below and all of the production week rehearsals and performances.  Please refer to the schedule of dates and times provided below in deciding your commitment to be a part of this cast. This is a great way to expose our younger school community to live theater performance, and to be a part of a truly magical event!

Each rehearsal will be led by Gwynne Chapman, vocal director for the musical and Director of Fine Arts, Emma Murphy and Emily MacFarlane, PHS Thespian Advisors and the Seussical Musical Directors.  Parents are encouraged to stay throughout the rehearsal to hear what your child is learning so that you can add support at home for them to practice.  It is imperative that your child arrive and be picked up from each musical rehearsal on time.

If your child is interested in being a part of the Seussical cast, please plan to be present at the casting audition on Monday, September 8th.    Auditions will take place from 4:00 – 5:30 PM in the high school auditorium. The first 15 minutes of the audition will be an informational meeting for students and their parents, and then we will commence with the auditions.  Your child does not need to prepare anything in advance for the audition.  Music will be provided and taught to the students at the audition.  Part of what we are assessing is how well your child takes direction, attentiveness, listening skills, and vocal and acting potential.

Each student must be accompanied by their parent or guardian at the audition, thank you.

Theatrically Yours,

Gwynne Chapman, Emma Murphy, and Emily MacFarlane
The Directors
