School Procedures and Policies

Community Alert

A Community Alert will be used when there is an external threat in the community but is not a specific threat to the school.

What it looks like:

Continue teaching as usual. Teaching and learning should continue as planned. Students and staff can move from class to class without restriction.

Shelter in Place 

A Shelter-in-Place will be used when there is a contained incident within the school – medical/behavioral

What it looks like:

Close and lock classroom doors but continue teaching as planned. Prompt students in the hallway to report back to the class from which they came.

An example of this would be a student or staff member are in need of medical assistance

Lockdown

A lockdown is instituted when there is an immediate threat within the building to students and staff.

What it looks like:

Pembroke uses the 4L’s for the Lockdown procedure.

The Four L's are Defined as;

LOCKDOWN, LOCATE, LEAVE,LIVE

Like a fire drill, lockdown drills are held at least twice per school year. One is a school-based drill and one is planned in coordination with the Pembroke Police Department.

Lockdown:

• Turn off the lights/pull-down shades etc.
• Gather students in an area of the room that is away from doors and windows
• Take steps to barricade the door and look around the room for objects that could be used to disrupt the shooter

Locate:

• Communicate known information about the location of the incident to assist police

Leave:

• Use available information to determine when/if they should leave using our evacuation plan

Live

Each building has what is called an Emergency Response Plan.  This plan outlines the steps taken by staff during an emergency.

This plan also includes a designated Crisis Management  Team and includes their contact information. 

These plans are not published online for the public, they are internal documents. 

Our School Resource Officer is Officer Kirby. He is stationed primarily at the middle and high school with check-ins at the elementary school as needed.
