Dr. Jessica Penella
General Music Hobomock
Jessica Penella received her Doctor of Arts in Leadership from Franklin Pierce University, Master of Arts in Teaching in Music from Bridgewater State University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Music from Bridgewater State College.
Jessica has been teaching general music at Hobomock Elementary School since 2006. The general music class includes guitar, piano, and violin instruction. The chorus performs at the Winter Concert, All Choral Night, and Spring Concert. She prepares students for assemblies and events throughout the school year.
Jessica attended a summer institute at Delta State University through National Endowment for the Humanities to learn about the "Music, Culture, and History of the Mississippi Delta". She published an article in the Massachusetts Educators Journal, "Music and Culture of the Mississippi Delta", and presented at the MMEA state conference about professional development opportunities for music educators based on the NEH experience. Jessica has attended several workshops including two summers of Orff Schulwerk (a method of music education), Music and Autism, and Building Academic Language and Competencies of ELLs. She served on the Southeast District Executive Board as the General Music Representative for several years.
Jessica sang for several years with the Briarwood Chorus and took voice lessons with Martina Ferrante. She taught piano lessons for 17 years and has been a piano accompanist for Bridgewater State University voice class performances, Randolph and Norton Public Schools concerts, and various churches on South Shore MA.
